Reflections on what is currently building up my faith in God

wendy g Goes to India…….

In February I’ll be going with a team of others from my church, Times Square Church to minister to the women, men, and children that live in the Red Light district of Pune, India. I first heard about how young girls (and some boys) are brought there a few years ago and my heart has been stirred ever since. Many of them are kidnapped from Nepal or swindled from their parents who are told their child will receive an education and a better job. Once there, they become sex-worker slaves. In some brothels, these poor souls are literally chained to a bed…….. Eventually children are born and as soon as they’re old enough, they’re forced into the same depraved industry. Altogether outrageous! And to make matters even worse, once a sex-worker slave with HIV/AIDS starts to show signs of this illness, they are literally kicked out onto the street. So they spend their last days dying, while begging, on the streets. Miraculously, over the last couple of years, attendees from my church have been able to work with another ministry that is based in Pune that ministers solely to these sex-worker slaves. Doors have opened and via a medical clinic and a beauty salon, volunteers have been able to show love and touch the hearts of these people. What’s so amazing is that the love of Christ powerfully pierces through the horror and tragedy and despair that is so thick in Pune’s Red Light district.

I feel honored that I have the opportunity to go and reach out to those who are trapped in this tangled web of darkness. Knowing that I go in the name of Christ and filled with His love for these people is the only reason I have hope. I would otherwise be overwhelmed and just stay here in NYC…….

I’m asking for support via prayer:
1-For the vicious chain of the sex-worker industry to be broken
2-For the enslaved men, women, and children to be able to leave this industry
3-For a hospice for the sex-workers who contract HIV/AIDS
4-That the love of Christ would effectually be poured out on these poor souls; so they’d know that they’re not alone; and that they would receive Christ as their own. (There is such a thing as freedom on the inside and forever! Hallelujah!)

I’m also asking for support via finances. The trip costs $2800 and any donations would be appreciated! Checks can be sent directly to my church’s missions office on my behalf — “India-wendy g” in the memo. Times Square Church will mail a receipt to you for tax purposes. The address is:

iPod Alert!!

This is what I’ve been listening to for two weeks and it’s just amazing! Cry Beautiful by Kate Conlon. 100% of the proceeds go to feed hungry children through out the world via ChildCry. Aren’t you tired of seeing hungry children on TV? Well I sure am! That’s why I bought this CD — to help feed children! How straightforward is that?!
Now RUN, don’t walk to order this CD.

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.

Prayer In The Square

These days the world can change in one hour. I believe that one hour of prayer can change the world. Do you believe that?

This Sunday, September 7th 2008, thousands of people will join their voices in prayer for New York City and beyond. Come join us for prayer in Times Square from 3-4 at 44th and Broadway.

For more information, go here.

I’m so excited about what God will do! :-)

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.

I was glad when they said unto me,

“Let us go into the house of The Lord.”
Psalm 22

As some of you know, I’ve been doing a photography project with the Times Square Church Music Ministry. It includes the choirs, the staff, and “behind-the-scenes” activity. Since I sing in the APC choir, it’s been such a fun honor to document some of the music ministry activities that are not often seen. Worshiping God is so much more than singing! Here are a few highlights in this slideshow.

Happy Anniversary Israel!

Wow!! Israel celebrates 60 years strong today. I wasn’t around back in 1948 but what an incredible history! There’s never before been a people who returned to their homeland after generations of persecution and opposition and …. atrocities. Amazing.

Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith The Lord of hosts.

Held

Earlier today I discovered this powerful song while riding in my friend’s car. It’s simply entitled “Held” and sung by Natalie Grant. It addresses the disappoints that we experience in life. And ultimately in the midst of disappointment, we find out truly what means to be held. To be held and loved by a Savior who will never forsake us. How awesome is that?!

The music video on YouTube is HERE.

Two months is too little.
They let him go.
They had no sudden healing.
To think that providence would
Take a child from his mother while she prays
Is appalling.

Who told us we’d be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We’re asking why this happens
To us who have died to live?
It’s unfair.

Chorus:
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.
