Now let’s talk about albums……..

I’ve noticed a trend over the last couple of years and it’s this: less interest in an album and more interest in a CD of digital files. Digital files are great! I deal with them everyday. (And I love shooting 100% digitally. Finally!! After two wild hybrid years!) However, they’re a means to an end. The “end” for wedding photography is an actual archival wedding album; not a CD. There’s nothing wrong with having a CD of digital files. All my clients get this anyway. But what I’m starting to worry about is the fact that digital files are not archival–they degrade, of course. And then what is that CD good for? And besides that, as technology continues to develop, we’ll eventually leave the CD format behind. I dunno what we’ll replace it with, but CDs WILL become obsolete. Remember floppy discs? And then the little floppy? Then CDs for storage purposes came with DVDs right behind them. But real photographs presented in an album….. acid free…. lignen free….. will outlive digital files by a generation or two. I dunno. I hope more people just remember that. And I will continue to offer my clients the finest wedding albums this world has to offer.

01.25.08 monica and lenny’s Greater Expectations

Hey! I went to Maryland to photograph Monica and Lenny who are expecting their first child. Very exciting! We are actually doing a series from Pregnancy until the baby turns one year old. This is one of the options in my Fearfully, Wonderfully collection. So anyway, I get there look around the house for cool spots for portraits while Monica gets her makeup done. Her friend Ja Nina is a professional makeup artist in NYC who does great work for individual clients and for film, television, and print. Here are some of my faves!

01.20.08 Sunny + Sam

Sunny and Sam got married! Yea!! I met Sunny years ago when wendy g photography was just starting out. And then years later she and Sam met, fell in love, and got engaged. It was a sunny, blistery cold day out. Perfect! But not perfect for outdoor portraits–especially the bridesmaids–so we stayed inside. They had a really lovely wedding and reception at Jericho Terrace in Minneola. The staff there thinks of everything! And they’re so nice as well. Here are a few of my favorites. :-)

Living in The Land of The Free

The other day I was sitting in my friend’s kitchen and somehow we started talking about the diversity of my clients. And in thinking about it, I can see a truly broad spectrum of people and the couples that are created. In addition to the usual combinations, I’ve been honored to photograph couples as diverse as: Ethiopian + Dominican, Korean + Puerto Rican, Italian + Scandinavian, Irish + Mexican, East Indian + West Indian, etc, etc……. WOW! All I can say is, “Well, Martin Luther King had a dream.”

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and
here’s to living in the land of the free!

Bridal Fair Fun!

Hey! It’s Bridal Fair season! This particular show was very nice and well organized. They have a relationship with Martha Stewart Living and some attendees get tickets and likewise some Martha guests get tickets to this show. A wedding and event planner with whom I’ve worked in the past also came with me. Tye from Especially For You Planners does wonderful, customized service. (I’m all about custom!!) And she’s genuinely very kind.

First, some goodies…..

Forgiveness

I’ve been thinking a lot about forgiveness lately. And apparently as long as we live on earth we’ll need to forgive one another. There will always arise something that irritates or hurts or angers me. Therefore if I want to live in harmony (inside and out) I MUST forgive people. There’s just no way to get around it. Even as we mature and learn and grow and “get better” at whatever (being on time, or letting others finish a sentence, or obeying the boss, or not lying, or not gossiping, or whatever you can think of), there still spills out something which offends somebody. Usually the people closest to us, but strangers are not exempt.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about this for one week. And today as I was pulling into a parking space I’m going forward and another car from “NOWHERE” quickly backs up right in front of me and won’t stop. He sees that I’m going into this space but he’s very determined not to let me. So I back down….. I put my car in reverse, and back up so that we don’t have a fender bender…… And as I drive past I can almost see the smirk on his face, that HE WON!! The first thing that came to my head was, “Well…. that’s what forgiveness is for. For behavior like that.”

Everyone needs forgiveness. I hope that when I need it, someone will forgive me! :-)
Happy New Year,

The Winter Wedding Pink Sale

Ha! Brought back by popular demand! The Winter Wedding Pink Sale refers to all weddings from December 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008. This special offer is tailored for winter weddings because it’s usually cold and the wedding day brief. ;-)

For obvious reasons, Saturday availability is diminishing quickly! So contact me if you’re interested.
