What Love Means To A Child

I received this email today and just had to share……..

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 - 8 year-olds, ‘ What does love mean?’

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

‘ When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’
Rebecca- age 8

‘ When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’
Billy - age 4

‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other’
Karl - age 5

‘ Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.’
Chrissy - age 6

‘ Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’
Terri - age 4

‘ Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’
Danny - age 7

‘ Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss’
Emily - age 8

‘ Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.’
Bobby - age 7

‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,’
Nikka - age 6

‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.’
Noelle - age 7

‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’
Tommy - age 6

‘During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’
Cindy - age 8

‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’
Clare - age 6

‘ Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.’
Elaine-age 5

‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’
Maryann - age 4

‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’
Lauren - age 4

‘When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’
Karen - age 7

‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’
Jessica - age 8

And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an el derly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry.’

Website Updates

Just finished making updates to my website, www.wendygphotography.com. Added a bunch of my clients’ kind words and replaced the Love Story gallery images. I’m so pysyched! I’ve gotta make other additions but happy with this so far. Let me know if there are typos or unclear phrases–it’s very late here in NYC…. ;-) Now I remember why I don’t often make changes to my website–it takes up so much time!
Whew!

Bridal Show Fun!

Last weekend I had a booth at a Bridal Show in Stamford, CT. It was so much fun! I’d done it before in NYC and had forgotten how fun they can be. I liked this one a lot better though because I actually had a chance to talk with brides and they had time to really peruse my sample albums, proofs, engagement albums, and parent albums. I had a booth which was visually inspired by another photographer but no one there had a booth like mine. On my way out the door, I grabbed my 4 year old digital p&s camera and took these few pics — Check it out!

Preaching is Foolish. Or is it?

Last week I had the pleasure of documenting an interesting ministry to NYC. Passengers of the Staten Island Ferry are probably already aware, but Michael and his wife are there telling folks that God loves them. Monday through Friday during the early morning rush hour Mike rides back and forth between Staten Island and Manhattan on the ferry. After about 4 hours when the SIF rush hour ends, they take their message of God’s love (much shorter for the 2 minute ride) onto the Shuttle subway. It was really interesting. I observed them and quietly took a few photographs. Because they’ve been doing this for over a year, the regular rush hour commuters are use to them and many call Mike “Pastor”. He can tell you story after story about people who have come to trust them and have asked for prayer, have been encouraged by the gentle consistency of this ministry. People have given their hearts to Jesus. People’s marriages have been turned around. People have been set free from secret addictive habits…….. The stories are powerful. These photographs are my attempt to capture just a measure of what God is doing through this ministry. The day that I came, there were students visiting from Timberline Lodge Bible College in Colorado. They sang and shared their own amazing stories.

The ministry is called Christ The LORD Evangelistic Association.

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness…..so it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save them which believe.” I Corinthians 1:18a, 21b

So anyway, through the foolishness of preaching, God is touching people’s hearts and lives and making a difference in NYC one sweet soul at a time….. :-)

Tip Number Two

Okay, with all the inquiries, meetings, and weddings I’ve learned another little tip for you. As I have said, my wedding packages are based on a creative fee (because you’re hiring me to be your photographer) AND a separate album or product credit. I receive many inquiries from brides and some grooms asking me to email them my price list. I’m always really honored that couples are considering ME for such a key part of their wedding day. I get it that most couples are trying to decide between a few photographers and so a price list seems like a good place to start. However, what I didn’t clearly understand is that a price list for products without actually seeing those products is not all that helpful. It could even be confusing! So the easiest remedy for that is to just meet with the photographer! Touch and look at the albums, thank you cards, parent albums, large prints, etc. To that end, I’ve posted closeup images of various types of albums that I carry.

PS: And to my colleagues: my prices are not top secret! I update them 2-3 times each year, yet I share them freely. If another wedding photographer wants to know what I offer and for how much, just call me! (some of you have–Thank You)
No need to pretend to be an interested bride or groom….. Yes, I know. ;-)

Headshots and Hangin’ With Wally

Today I did a photoshoot for my friend Heather at her friend Wally’s home. Heather knows Wally’s mom from the Actors Studio. Here are a few images of Heather; and isn’t Wally adorable! :-)

Fine Art Albums

These are the most custom albums that I offer. Each two-page spread has multiple images that both help tell the story of the wedding day AND complement each other within the spread layout. These albums can be of the Collage Style or the Matted version. Either way, each couple’s wedding album is unique and totally custom. There are many, many options for the cover. Lots of leather choices in various colors and textures (napa, distressed, lizard, etc) as well as metal, wood, and bookbinder fabrics. For pricing purposes, both The Matted Album Aussie Original and the Collage Style albums fall into the Fine Art Album category. Here are some closeups. This first one was a two volume set with a matching slipcase. The 8×8 duplicate is bound in Black Lizard embossed leather and the larger 12×12 main album is in a soft Black leather with cover photographs. The second album is a matted album in a soft, textured leather.
